We think we are pretty lucky round here with the various pubs that we have.

There is just about every type of establishment you could wish for - from drinking only pubs to places that describe themselves as pubs but are really restaurants. And in most of them the quality of the food is unbelievably good.

Whenever we are away, and we eat out we realise just how good our local pubs are - there really is a treat in store for you here.

There is a copy of "The Good Pub Guide" in Duck Pond View, but (roughly in order of distance from us) here are some of the ones we use regularly.

The Puss in Boots Hazelwood 01773 550 513	A drinkers pub, not much food just bar snacks at lunchtimes, and then not always. But only 400 yards away - walking distance. Warm and snug in the winter, and great on a summer evening.
The Railway Cowers Lane 01773 550 271	Another local. Good quality pub grub all day, very happy with children and families. The standard menu is inexpensive, while the more exotic specials board is less so. Good reports of the twice weekly carvery.
The Cross Keys Turnditch 01773 550 263	Another local. A lot quieter than the Tiger, but also good food at very good prices. A meal and an evenings drinking for 2, typically about Ł30
The Tiger Inn Turnditch 01773 550200	Our local. Real English village pub atmosphere. Incredibly good food and at good prices. Tuesday night is curry night - Ł3.00 a head. A meal and an evenings drinking for 2, typically about Ł30
The Bluebell Farnah Green 01773 826 495	Recently revisited, excellent food, good portions, well prepared and presented, but not cheap. Restaurant is quite posh, but you can eat the same menu in the bar if you prefer.
The Hanging Gate Shottle Gate 01773 551 801	A chain pub, but you wouldn't know unless you had been to another pub in the same chain. Food all day, usually good, but the menu doesn't change much.
The Talbot Hotel Belper 01773 822 258	Very good food with Italian leanings, (in a restaurant if you choose,) good beer, not quite as expensive as The Bluebell or the Black Swan. A meal and an evenings drinking for 2 - £45
The Bear Alderwasley 01629 822 585	Huge menu, good vegetarian selection, and all excellent. Good portions, but not cheap. A meal and an evenings drinking for 2, typically about £45. (Good Pub Guide)
The Black Swan Idridgehay 01773 550 249	Excellent food, still Nouvelle Cuisine, but generous portions. Try the jam roly poly! Definitely somewhere for that special evening - around £50 for two - but cheaper at lunch time and for evening early doors.
The Barley Mow Kirk Ireton 01335 370 306	Something very special. No food, probably not changed much since the middle ages, and with a limited choice of well kept beers, but well worth a visit, if only for a pre-dinner drink.
The Cock Inn Muggington 01773 550293	Village pub type, relatively simple food, and relatively cheap.
The Coach and Horses Fenny Bentley 01335 350246	A very busy little pub on the Ashbourne/Buxton road. Excellent menu, great for Sunday lunch. A meal and an evenings drinking for 2, typically about £30
The Red Lion Hognaston 01335 370396	Some time since we were here, but an excellent menu, extensive and with some unusual items, but it can get a bit pricey - go for the early doors menu. (Michelin "Eating Out in Pubs")
