From The West, the North West, the Potteries and Ashbourne--------------------------
From the North West, there are a number of choices, but basically you either take a pretty route though the hills (which will be short, slow, and full of speed cameras), or you stay on motorways and dual carraigeways, (which is faster but longer, with slightly fewer speed cameras).
The two pretty routes involve going south from Manchester and either staying on the A6 finishing up in Belper (in which case pick up directions from Belper here) or most other routes finish up in Ashbourne (in which case pick up from Ashbourne here).
Main Road Route
Head up/down the M6 to junction 15 (if you come off at 16, you may hit severe traffic) and towards Stoke on the A500.
Within a couple of miles, take the A50 to Uttoxeter and Derby. This is easily missed as it is the second of two slip roads, so keep a look out for signposts to the A50 to Derby.
Here again there are two choices:-
The Main Road Route
After about 23 miles, take the A516 (signposted to West Derby I think, with a local signpost to Etwall).
In 7 miles this joins the main A38 heading north to Derby, stay on the A38, and within a mile or so, (as it becomes the Derby bypass - heralded by a 40 mph limit), you get to a roundabout with an Esso garage and a McDonalds. This is the A52 - go straight over staying on the A38.
Within 400 yards, there is an exit to Kedleston Hall (among other places) which you ignore.
About a mile further on there is an exit for the A6 to Matlock. Come off here, and take the second exit from the roundabout signposted A6 to Matlock.
In a couple of miles you come to Duffield, and half a mile after the Duffield sign there is a set of traffic lights with a left turn, the B5023, signposted to Wirksworth, which you should take.
This takes you out of Duffield into the country, and just over a mile after you leave Duffield, you come to the Puss in Boots (set back from the road on the left), with a right turn opposite it signposted to Hazelwood. Take the right turn.
You go immediately over a small bridge, and then a larger one. On the left are three or four houses together, which you ignore. We are about 100 yards further on.
As you come round a gentle right hand bend, there on the left are the "Knowle Farm" and "Duck Pond View" signs in green, and the entrance is just past the signs. The house is set back from the road with a gravel drive - and there is an old street light by the gate.
Via Ashbourne
After about 20 miles, come off on the A515 to Ashbourne. Follow this for just over 8 miles, and you come to a roundabout with the A52. Cross straight over. Within a mile go over a mini roundabout (Sainsbury's on the left if you need it), and two sets of traffic lights. This will leave you on the A517 Belper road.
Come out of Ashbourne heading East on the A517 to Belper.
In about 7 miles you will come to Turnditch, (having passed through Hulland Ward).
Go past the Tiger Inn, and down the hill (past the Cross Keys) to the traffic lights (The Railway Inn).
Turn right at the lights towards Duffield, and within a couple of miles you come to the Puss in Boots (set back from the road on the right), with a left turn opposite it signposted to Hazelwood. Take the left turn.
